great that gagner made it, but it sure doesn't mean squat to have three first round picks. wonder how cgy or cbj will do after this recent draft with their three first rounders.

BEST DRAFT- Montreal Canadiens – hands down on this one. They selected three of the top 10 players in the whole draft. Now if only they held onto all of them.

always thought about this. ugh that Gomez trade will be haunting us for years. what a weak-willed GM Bob Gainey was. that said, that has to be one of the shrewdest first 3 picks in history, factoring in where they were picked.

To think Jamie Benn was passed over for almost 5 full rounds. That's a scary thought.

I have more faith in CBJ than CAL for picks making it, only because Feaster seems to go off the board sometimes, like the Patick White pick, where you think he could have gotten the player in the next round. For our sake, I hope his picks turn out like Patrick White did for us.

Happens every year. Then idiots like us sound of in forums ranting and raving 4 to 5 years later about how we could have gotten so and so instead of ____ . Every team has some success with late round picks, and lots of let downs.

Yup totally agree. I fully think Columbus is on the up swing compared to cowtown. With no goalie CGY is the favorite to be picking number 1 next year IMO. The new CLB GM has so far been pretty good. If Bob can continue to be the stud he was last year I think they will be a playoff team.

The Canucks and drafting...where do I begin? I think I'll just abstain.

The sheer number of misses compared to hits over the past 40 years is absolutely shameful. Yes Nonis and Burke drafted the Sedins, Kesler and Edler, but they wiffed so many times it isn't even funny! Pat Quinn was no genius either for that matter.

Looking back at the '07 draft, what are some of your thoughts?
My thoughts are - Dave Nonis was in completey over his head!

Who do you wish your team took?
Jamie Benn - for obvious reasons.

Who do you regret taking?
Taylor Ellington

Do you think horvat was a miss for us?
I just have that feeling he was picked to high and we couldve gotten someone else that was in that top 10 rank.
I think hunter was good choice even though he becomes a bust because he was a projected top 15-10 pick

Starting to sound more and more like Lack could be our number one.......

If Lou actually doesn't report to camp, I want gillis' head on a stick.

How could he possibley trade away Schneider without consulting Lou first. Guy is a friggin moron.

- vancity787

Michael D Gillis on the phone at the Draft:
"Hey Lou, we can't find a single team to trade you to without eating half your contract, which will really f*ck up our salary cap for the next decade. We also can't buy you out. Hey, is it ok if we trade Cory? No, eh? Alright then, I guess we'll just keep you both. Hey Lou, can we get you any special cushions or back rests for the bench this season? How about a new iPad so you can live tweet games?"

How exactly does anyone expect that conversation to have gone? Since when does a GM need to ask a player under contract for the next 9 years whether he's allowed to trade the player he's competing with for a job? Gillis did his job. Too bad for Lu.

Apparently Quinn regularly picked guys the scouts didn't want. Awful track record.

JVR hasn't been better than any of those players yet. He still has the potential though.

Espisito was part of the deal that brought the Penguins Dupuis. That is about the best thing about the 07 first round from a Penguins view.

I hate the misconception that if a player gets traded it's because they weren't good enough for that team. Or if they get traded multiple times there's immediately something wrong with them. Sometimes teams just trade from positions of strength to bolster positions of weakness. Sometimes they trade great prospects for proven vets to bolster a playoff run.

No, I think he was a solid pick, but that won't be determined for a minimum of three years IMO.

Ilya Kablukov is still playing out in the KHL somewhere. Between him and White we have two players who are putting up some serious GP numbers in professional hockey
